Strengthening local structures in Lomas de Zamora<\/h3>

In Lomas de Zamora (Buenos Aires Province), one of the areas where DyA operates, it is crucial that local communities and institutions have the necessary skills to provide children and young people with a safe and sustainable environment. To achieve this, DyA supports local organizations in improving their working methods and coordinating their activities so that they can offer reliable and sustainable protection services. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

  • Workshops and school support for 6- to 17-year-olds to promote educational success.<\/li>
  • Spaces for listening and leisure activities to promote personal development and participation.<\/li>

    In the Tucum\u00e1n region (northwestern Argentina), DyA is developing community-based mental health services for adolescents (aged 10\u201317):<\/p>

    • Workshops on mental health, addiction, suicide prevention, sexual and reproductive health.<\/li>
    • Individual and group-based support to promote well-being and independence.<\/li><\/ul>

      15-year-old Camila regularly attends mental health workshops in her community. During the sessions, she has learned to recognize signs of stress and anxiety in young people around her. Thanks to the tools provided by professionals, she was able to help a friend in need to seek appropriate support from local services, demonstrating the tangible impact of these services on young people. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      In the Misiones region (northeastern Argentina), DyA is strengthening the digital skills of 200 public school students:<\/p>

      • Regular access to digital tools.<\/li>
      • Workshops on digital technology training in collaboration with the public sector and partner foundations.<\/li><\/ul>

        14-year-old Juan had never used a computer for school before. Thanks to the workshops, he can now do his homework online and help his classmates understand digital tools. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

          In the neighborhoods of El Milenio and Los Hornos (Moreno district, Buenos Aires), we support children and teenagers in participating in public life and asserting their rights.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

          Children and teenagers are involved in local and community organizations to assert their rights:<\/p>

          • Monthly meetings in public institutions (thematic rounds, local council).<\/li>
          • Weekly children’s (El Milenio) and youth councils (Los Hornos).<\/li>
          • Annual participatory self-assessment and jointly developed work plan: Every year, children, teenagers, and families analyze the situation in their neighborhood and jointly determine the priorities and measures to be implemented.<\/li>
          • Annual awareness campaign by teenagers for the general public.<\/li>
          • Annual forum where children, teenagers, and local institutions come together to discuss progress and priorities.<\/li>
          • Involvement of councils in local committees with concrete proposals for action.<\/li><\/ul>

            16-year-old Facundo took part in a training course on children’s rights. For the first time, he addressed the local council to present an assessment of his neighborhood and propose protective measures for all children. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

            • Education and literacy activities promote the participation and independence of young people:<\/li>
            • Participation in the municipal literacy campaign in five communities.<\/li>
            • Maintenance and supervision of literacy rooms for carrying out activities.<\/li>
            • Exchange between youth councils in the municipality of Cuartel V to share experiences and solutions.<\/li><\/ul>

              10-year-old Luc\u00eda lacked self-confidence and struggled at school. Thanks to the literacy workshops, she has learned to read faster and now enthusiastically participates in her children’s council meetings. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

                Actors in the communities are empowered to support young people in the long term:<\/p>

                • Training of 30 speakers on the topics of civic participation, sex education, education, health, housing, and the environment.<\/li>
                • Cooperation between neighborhoods to increase influence on local institutions.<\/li>
                • Support for five municipal literacy centers: Assistance for five institutions in different neighborhoods so that children and teenagers can learn to read and write and participate in educational activities as part of a coordinated local campaign.<\/li>
                • Participation in the monthly meeting of the Cuartel V organizations to coordinate measures.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

                    Why this project is so important<\/h2>

                    In Moreno, more than half of the children live below the poverty line. Many face violence, exclusion, and a lack of basic services. All too often, their voices are not heard. <\/p>


                    By enabling them to participate, make suggestions, and be heard, we are paving the way for a society in which young people are recognized as full citizens and their rights are truly respected.<\/p>
